MEET THE PRACTITIONERS
VK CHANDRASEKHARAN
A Marine Engineer (DMET, Class of 1980) and has retired as Head – Quality and Safety and DPA of The Great Eastern Shipping Company Ltd, Mumbai. After a sea career worked as a Surveyor with Lloyd’s Register of Shipping for 17 years spending time in Marine Surveys including ISM and ISPS Audits, Industrial Inspection and Qualality Management System Certification. Was also a qualified external trainer while working at Lloyd's Register. He Joined Greatship (India) Limited a subsidiary of the GESCO and spent 7 years as head and owner’s representative during their new building programme of offshore vessels.
ATUL MANI SHARMA
Belongs to the 1976 – 1980 batch of DMET. He has 13 years of sailing experience on a variety of ships including General cargo, containers, bulk carriers, tankers and product carriers. Mr Sharma was employed with Lloyds Register of Shipping and Industrial Services for more than 15 years during which he was engaged in inspection testing and certification of marine components, general engineering items and equipment relating to the marine sector, the power plants, oil and gas sector. He then served with Indian Register of Shipping for 12 years where he headed the Marine component, Service supplier and welding consumable approval departments.
RAJESH MALHOTRA
Mr. Rajesh Malhotra has worked in shipyards and drydocks for 12 years for companies like ABG, Dry dock world, Singapore and Bharati shipyard Limited. He has been involved in almost all activities of ship construction and repairs including but not limited to contracting with vessel owners, designing of a vessel, procurements of required parts, regulatory compliance, project management, cost management, delivery of vessels and warranty claims. He has also technically managed vessels for Resolve marine Group, USA and has been a training faculty at LBSCAMSAR, Anglo Eastern maritime Training centre and IMEI.
Mr. Malhotra graduated from DMET, Kolkata in 1980 and received his MOT 1st Class license in 1988. He has sailed for 14 years, before shifting ashore in varied roles across ship building, technical management and training.
MUKUL KISHORE PANDEY
DMET Batch of 1976-1980, a Marine Engineer clocking a sailing career of total 27 years, out of which for 17 years he was positioned as a Chief Engineer on various types of Sea going Vessels. He has well utilized this hands-on experience gained at sea, in various jobs & assignments handled ashore with a number of prestigious Organizations related to the maritime industry for a period of over 12 years positioned as a New Building Superintendent, Ship Designer & DGM-Machinery & Piping, Educator and as ILS Consultant for New Naval Ship Acquisitions. His two last assignments as an ILS Consultant were back to back projects with Norwegian Defense Material Agency, working directly under the Norwegian Ministry of Defense and the Royal New Zealand Defense Forces for their new acquisitions in Korean Shipyards.
BHAVKARAN SINGH
Nearly 40 years experience in international merchant shipping. Mr. Singh started as a cadet in 1976, Graduated as a Marine Engineer and sailed on various types of vessels, the last 9 years as Chief Engineer. He came ashore as Technical Superintendent in 1996, over next 20 years gained seniority as Senior Superintendent, Fleet Manager, Project manager.
General Manager of Ship repair Yard in Dubai. His last position was Technical Director with Seateam Management, a Frontline owned in house shipmanagement company, which he joined at setting up of the company. He took retirement in 2016 and done Consultancy Projects for VLCC new building, new & retrofitting of BWTS & Scrubber systems, major collision & damage repairs and FSO conversions and layup of vessels.
He has had the unique opportunity to look at shipping from all four sides of sailing Engineer, Ship Owner, Ship Manager & Ship Repair Yard.
CHITTA DASH
He graduated out from DMET, Kolkata, 1980 and sailed with Great Eastern Shipping Company (GESCO) until 1989, served as Chief Engineer over three years. He joined Lloyd’s Register of Shipping in 1990. Took over as Lloyd’s Register’s Marine Business Manager for South West Asia in 2010 and served as Area General Manager/Chief Representative from 2014, until retirement in 2020.
DINYAR SIDHVA
A Master Mariner with a versatile experience of nearly 40 years in the maritime sector. He has served on various vessels: bulk carriers, tankers, general cargo ships, container ships and offshore support vessels. At shore he has handled varied functions including ship operations, manning, quality, health safety and environment. He has served as a DPA, CSO and MR for two organizations.
PAWAN KAPOOR
A Class I Marine Engineer, Mr. Pawan Kapoor has a vast and varied working experience of over 27 years, Pawan has lead teams of professionals and educationists for development of world-class training and educational establishments.
